Biography: Dr. Angus M. Slater is currently a Lecturer in Theology and Religious Studies at the
University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Research interests include interfaith dialogue, particularly
between Christianity and Islam, alongside issues of power, authority, and identity.
Abstract: This paper aims to address and interrogate the specific context of interfaith reflection in
Wales, particularly in light of recent policy and political developments. In doing so, it argues for a
reappraisal of the nature of ‘interfaith’ as a useful way of categorising aspects of our communally
lived social realities. It argues instead for a rejection of the idea of chronologically discrete moments
of interaction and for viewing our interactions as occurring within a framework formed of multiple,
changeable, and pluriform cultural, religious, and political identities.
